Part of the View

This poem comes out of a story about my cousin Jacki's daughter Emma.  I hope it brings you a smile on this beautiful New Year's Day.  God bless you in 2013!

Small, four year old legs stretch

Bend back

Bend back

Rhythmically powering a creaky, metal-chained swing

With mounting strength and speed.

“I love the view,”

Emma tells Grammy,

Who is standing near

Ready to lend a push.

Rugged mountains stretch out beyond the playground.

Her legs work hard, carrying her higher.

Reaching, stretching, with all her might,

Emma throws back her head,

Declares,

“Now I’m part of the view!”
